Christmas Party Appetizer Recipes

by Melinda

Why not do some planning NOW for your holiday parties?

As the season draws near it seems like there are more and more demands on your time. If you have menus and decorating planned in advance – including shopping lists – then you’ll eliminate some frenzied stress during the holiday season.

Here are a couple of appetizer recipes for Christmas and holiday entertaining which our family has been using so long that I don’t know where they originated from.

1 cup pecans
1 clove garlic
1 six-oz package of cream cheese
1 Tbs A-1 Sauce
1 1/2 tsp chili powder

Finely grind pecans and garlic clove.  Blend together with cream cheese and A-1 Sauce.

Shape into roll about 5 inches long and 1 1/2 inches in diameter.  Roll in chili powder to coat evenly.  Wrap in foil and chill until firm.  Slice and serve with crisp crackers.

SMOKED TURKEY “CIGARETTES” (from the days when cigarettes were more “acceptable”)

On paper-thin slices of smoked turkey from the deli, spread seasoned cream cheese and roll into “cigarettes.”  Pierce with cocktail picks.  [Season the cream cheese with whatever you like such as chives, paprika, olives, onions, cranberry, etc.]

Again, don’t wait until mid-November or early December to start planning your Thanksgiving or Christmas parties.  Laying out the menus and writing up shopping lists will leave you more time for your family and friends during a magical time of year.
