Get ready for a “LOVELY” holiday

by Melinda

Although this is a Christmas site, I also share the history, stories, crafts, recipes and decorating ideas related to all the holidays during the Christmas “off” season. And today the focus is on Valentines Day which is exactly two weeks from today.

Valentines from 1920 is "mechanical." A grommet affixed to center of card lets dog's eyes glance side-to-side when blue bow is moved.

To help you prepare for this lovely holiday … this holiday centered on love for husbands and wives, boyfriends and girlfriends, family and dear friends … I have a couple gift ideas and craft ideas.

As I was poking around Google, a couple of ads popped up that I want to share with you. I chose these gift ideas because they both are fundraisers for charity.

I don’t know anything beyond what I share with you here about either charity. This isn’t an endorsement of any kind so you’ll have to do your own due diligence. But I liked what I saw so I’m passing it on.

Here are two nice ways to send a gift to a friend or family member and help a cause at the same time:

1 – H.O.P.E., Inc. is Helping Other People be Empowered. They’re selling Valentines Day chocolates as a fundraiser and 100% of the candy proceeds go to the charity program.

They help single parents finish their college degree so they can provide a better future for their children. It was founded by a single mother who had a very hard time getting her degree, working, paying bills and raising kids all by herself. The money they raise actually helps pay housing costs and child care so the single parent has money left for tuition.

What a sweet gift you’ll be giving in more ways than one.

2 – Friends of Trees is nonprofit you can support with a natural gift for someone who wants to see plenty of forests for years to come.

In the charity’s own words, “Friends of Trees wants to share the love for Valentine’s Day, so we’re offering a 25% discount on Gift Trees and Gift Groves during the entire month of February. Just use discount code TREELOVE when you place your order. All Gift Trees ordered by February 10 will be delivered in time for Valentine’s Day. For a donation of $35, Friends of Trees will plant a young native tree in honor of the person you choose and mail an acknowledgment card on your behalf.”

Now with the Valentine gift-giving covered, how about a few holiday crafts? Today I have links to websites where I found some neat Valentines Day crafts.
